The Raleigh Dead Drop Wrap Up

Well alright.  The First Ever Raleigh Dead Drop is now officially complete.  We sincerely thank everyone who made this event possible and most especially those who participated.  Woody and Chris were the first two winners of the Raleigh Dead Drop.  We’d like to take some time now and explain how this Dead Drop was put together and reveal the answer to each clue.
The first clue was posted on our website as soon as our countdown clock ended.  The clue was also placed on the large monitors that acted as displays in our office windows.  Those that took the initiative to sign our mailing list were given instructions to come to the office early and get a head start by being here when the countdown ended.  The first clue read:

‘Come visit our office for the first clue, you can look in the window, but the answer might be over your head.’

The participants were expected to go to Twine Interactive’s front window and look under our awning where the following words were projected:

‘email to iwantmyipod@twineinteractive’

The participants were then expected to email any message to that email address.  They instantly received a return message that said the following:

‘Raleigh brings in the New Year in its own way, they drop an Acorn. Here at Twine Interactive, we drop an iPod Touch…. and we don’t wait for New Years! Find Raleigh’s icon, and it’ll get you one step close to your reward. Multiply the number of sides (panels) by the first year the acorn was dropped. Subtract this number from 9192429303. You have a message waiting.’

After all the math was hashed out the contestants were intended to call the number 919-238-9463 (23Twine).  When the contestants called the number they received a message saying the following:

‘You’re getting closer. Do you know the fastest way over to Glenwood South? Find yourself some sweets at a shop with an ‘e’, and be sure to ask them if they know your fortune.’

This clue was intended to lead them to The Cupcake Shoppe on Glenwood South.  Once inside they had to ask the employee working the counter if she knew their fortune.  After they asked this question they were handed a fortune cookie that once broken open revealed the following fortune:

‘It doesn’t get more square than the arrow atop a downtown buidling. DM on Twitter the building # to @unraveltheweb 4 final clue.’

In all honesty this was the most difficult of all the clues.  Most people didn’t have any idea what DM meant and some didn’t even have twitter accounts.  On top of that the Raleigh arrow we were referring to is a giant skylight in the shape of an arrow atop the building at 108 Hargett st. in downtown Raleigh.  However those that powered through this clue did in fact “direct message” Twine Interactive the correct address and recieved the following direct message in response:

‘Head to Raleigh’s first and finest Gastropub and there might be an iPod waiting for you.’

This clue led the contestants to The Oxford which is located at the end of Fayetteville St. where the iPods and some good eats were waiting.

Congrats to the winners Woody and Chris.  All together the dead drop had a little less than 200 people participate and was a fun time.  Be sure to check back periodically as will be giving away more items and creating more dead drop fun.
